Description:
In working with a video piece exploring written language, I developed a
series of hand-drawn textures, one of which was modified here to imply
broken and moving earth radiating outward at the time of the quake. This
movement goes both ways. Destruction is depicted as a call, with responses
flowing back toward the source of the quake along the same paths as the
movement that created the wreckage. Screenprinting (using hand-drawn
illustration) and letterpress processes (with wooden type on a hand-inked
press) refer to the tangibility of the physical need. Printing method: combination silkscreen and letterpress with wood type
