I am one of 5 designers on staff at Gateway Church in Southlake, Tx. Created from a piece of cardboard most people would have thrown out, this poster is my visual expression of how what you see on the surface is often not all that there is to see. Once you peel back the layers you may find an unexpected depth and dimension. After carving the typography into the cardboard I photographed the final piece, and digital printing was provided by Miklis Printing of Garland, Texas.

Our team of 5 graphic designers decided to build five separate posters, each one preserving the same type-treatment. “Unity Creates Strength” is a loose translation of the Haitian national motto, “L’ Union Fait La Force.” The designers took complete ownership and creative license on his/her own poster. Each interpretation was then torn to pieces and hand-stitched back together to yield the sixth and culminating, “Frankenposter.” The final collaboration reveals the ultimate message—that the fractured pieces of Haiti will come back together to form an even stronger nation with help from everyone’s unique contribution.
